On that cold winter night in December 1978, eighteen farmers from the Xiaogang production team took great risks and pressed their bright red handprints on a "life and death contract". The few sentences in the contract are shocking: we divide the land into households, and each household head signs and seals it. If we can do it in the future, each household guarantees to pay the public grain throughout the year and will no longer ask the state for money for food. If we fail, our cadres are willing to be imprisoned and beheaded. We also promise to raise our children until they are eighteen years old. This is such a contract, and Xiaogang Village has taken the lead in promoting agricultural big contracting in the country. It is precisely these eighteen farmers who have the spirit of daring to be the first in the world that have opened the prelude to China's rural economic reform. The entire exhibition hall covers an area of more than 5500 square meters, with an exhibition area of over 4900 square meters. It is divided into six parts: traceability, decision-making, contribution, great change, outlook, and care. Through detailed graphic and textual materials, it shows the entire process of big contracting from brewing to occurrence to development, and also showcases the magnificent rural reform process of China in the past 43 years.
